Glossary of bridge terminology

Shaft Bearing: A support for a revolving shaft. Shaft Coupling: Any of the several devices for joining the ends of two shafts. Shafting: A general term for a number of shafts connected up to form a system. Rounds used for making shafts. Shafting Box: A one-piece type of bearing for shafting, having a base and bolt holes for bolting to a support.

Industrial Drive Units

Shaft Drive: A shaft drive is provided when the entire mechanism is supported by a full-span bridge. The bridge-mounted drive transmits power to the solids collecting rakes through a center drive shaft. WesTech offers many gear sizes driven by single or multi-pinion reducer stacks, to meet a wide range of process torque requirements.

Shaft Holders

Create a support that fits the exact dimensions of your shaft. Good for use with square- and hex-profile shafts, these aluminum supports also work with round shafts of any diameter up to 1". Use them for light-to-medium-load linear motion applications where shaft alignment is not critical.

Drive Shaft Bearing Replacement

 · A quick how to on how to replace a drive shaft bearing on a 2 piece drive shaft. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Thanks for watching.

Selecting and Specifying Bearings for Movable Bridges

very slow speed spherical roller bearings in a bascule bridge. The different lives for the 232/560 bearing are the result of varying the special life adjustment factor. In the example shown the required bearing life is 75 years with 20 openings per day. A 232/560 basic bearing is selected and the calculation is performed with various combinations.

Bearing Specification Guide

If the bearing or application is not listed, contact your Timken representative or visit timken.com to view the most recent application listings. If you are still unable to identify the correct bearing, then utilize the Bearing Specification Guide. Bearings in this catalog are arranged by bearing type, with a size and/or numerical listing.

Bridge Pier

 · What is a Bridge Pier? Any bridge structure is a combination of two components: substructure and super structure. For bridges with bearings, all the components which transfer the loads from bearing to the ground is called substructure.Substructure consists of bridge pier, abutments, wing walls, piles etc. while the superstructure consists of deck, girders or any part on which the traffic ….

Bearing Solutions and Services for Drilling Rigs

roller bearings in the drum, gearbox and drive motor Rotary Table • Main bearing: axial angular contact ball bearing (upper and lower bearing or complete units) • Drive shaft: spherical roller bearing (outer bearing), tapered roller bearing (inner bearing) Other Rig Equipment Various bearings in downhole drilling tools (mud turbines, rotary.

G 9.1

Steel Bridge Bearing Design and Detailing Guidelines Introduction The purpose of this guide is to present steel bridge bearing details that are cost effective, functional, and durable. Three major types of bridge bearings are presented. 1. Elastomeric bearings.

Section Twelve Bridge Bearings

Bridge Bearings April 12-5 should be to place a fixed bearing near the center of the bridge. However, whenever possible, consideration should be given to forcing the majority of the expansion movement uphill. 12.4 Painting of Bearings The steel parts of all bearings, including weathering steel, shall be painted due to concern for.

Bridge Construction

Over the years, American Bridge has built some of the world's most notable bridges including the Tappan Zee, Verrazzano Narrows, Mackinac, Bayonne, San Francisco-Oakland Bay East and West Spans, Angostura, 25th of April, New River Gorge, and Sunshine Skyway.Today, that tradition continues with the likes of the Queensferry Crossing in Edinburgh, Scotland which currently holds the record for.

Couplings: Disc, Elastomeric, Fluid, Gear, Grid

The CENTAFLEX-T series was designed based on a bridge bearing principle, with high power density and good misalignment properties. ... With the special tools provided, axial and radial installation of the coupling is fast, without the need for hubstars or toothing ... Drive Shafts: Available as homokinetic drive shaft for reliable compensation.

Center Support Bearing

A center support bearing allows the driveshaft to be split into two sections in trucks and SUVs. This is done to extend the length of the driveshaft in these longer vehicles. It supports the two halves of the driveshaft between the transmission and rear differential.

What is a Thrust Load? (with pictures)

 · A special main bearing, known as the thrust bearing, contains sides which contact an area machined on the crankshaft to cushion the thrust load. The clearance pre-set into the thrust bearing is achieved by gently prying or tapping the crankshaft in both forward and rearward directions before tightening the main bearing cap down.

Chapter 12 Abutments

WisDOT Bridge Manual Chapter 12

 · Bearing Defects. Abrasive damage: Fine scratches caused by particles in the lub oil. Very common on HFO burning engines. Erosion damage : Removal of the overlay in strips caused when the oil supply pressure is low or rapid journal movements occur. More usual on medium speed engines. Fatigue damage: The overlay becomes detached from the lining when the bearing load becomes too high.
